Week of March 2-6, 2015

The first week of March is upon us, my goodness how time flies! The list of events for this week is listed below. We will also be covering a new lesson, Measurement and Data!

Key Terms to know for the upcoming week:
Box Plot: A display that shows how the values in a data set are distributed
Dot Plot: A display in which each piece of data is represented by a dot above a number line
Circle Graph: A round chart divided into pieces that represent a portion of a set of data

Monday: Panoramic Picture, please wear the proper uniform attire.
Wednesday: Open House 4-6 PM
Friday: Pi Day

Have a wonderful weekend.

I had the students work on an activity that involved using pieces of duct tape to create a composite figure on the floor. They used the tiles as a grid, and they were instructed to calculate the total area of the figure in inches. They also had to give me a verbal description of the process they used to solve for the total area.
Below are some pictures I took of my students creating the figures, and also some of the finished composite figures on the floor.

Week of February 23-27, 2015

The first week of the 5th Six Weeks!

Time is winding down and we have some ways to go. Last week we had our Math Benchmark and I was very pleased with 92% passing, but I am aiming for 100%!! I know you all have it in you, and by the time you take the STAAR we will have covered all the TEKS and material!

I want to thank you for trying your best, and that is all that I am asking of you. It's hard to beat someone who never quits.

To all those participating  in the county fair this coming week, good luck and make sure you ask for all the work you will be missing out on.

FRIDAY: Rio Grande City County Fair

Week of February 16-20, 2015

This week we will continue Benchmarks.

The MATH benchmark will be taken on Tuesday and the reading benchmark will be taken on Wednesday!

We will continue our review on Monday. I wish all of you the best of luck on these upcoming benchmarks, and remember that all your teachers are here to help!

This is also the last week of the six weeks, so remember to TURN IN ANY MISSING ASSIGNMENTS. I have already gone through the list for those of you missing anything.

Thank you and see you Monday!

Also, baseball season is right around the corner! Let's Go Rio!

CSI- Creative Minds

My students were asked to follow a fingerprint pattern to tell me a little about themselves. Fingerprints are unique just like each and every one of my students. These were a few of their finished products...

They also made some cards for Valentine's Day!

I had one student draw me this on my board and suggest we make it our class logo!
