It is the start of a brand new six weeks and I encourage you to leave all the negative behind and start fresh. We have 4 days of instruction this week Monday-Thursday, PLEASE do not be absent! 

I will be going over Indirect Measurement (when we set up proportions and cross-multiply/divide),  as well as scale drawings (used for map making and architectural design.)

Week of November 6-10, 2017

5th Week of the 2nd Six Weeks!!!

This is the last week of the 2nd six weeks, please make sure you turn ALL your assignments in. 
If you need help make it a point to come in during lunch for a few minutes to ask questions and gain clarification.

This week we will be going over Simple Interest. This lesson is important for future scenarios where you might have to borrow money from a bank, and then you're going to have to pay them back with interest.

You will be learning several new vocabulary terms, and one very important equation. Make sure to have your journals every day with you and a PENCIL not a pen.

The school is flying by and we have learned so much in that amount of time! I was very happy with your six weeks test grades.

I hope you all had fun at Fiesta Texas this past Friday, and that you are looking forward to the last couple of weeks of school.

This Monday we will put our paper airplanes to the test, and Tuesday we will be watching The Boy in the Striped Pajamas at the Paco Zarate. We will then enjoy pizza in our homerooms after lunch. 

We will be viewing the movie Hidden Figures in my classroom for the remainder of the week, and you will be asked to complete questions regarding the movie as it is playing.

May 1-5, 2017

5 DAYS FOR THE MATH STAAR!

We have already been reviewing for a week now, and Mrs. Salinas has been kind enough to give you all a double dose of math through her science class. Practice makes perfect! 

I know it has been a whirlwind, but we are only 5 days away and I know you all are going to breeze through this test.

We know our goals and we know the bar is set high, but I know you can achieve anything with the right amount of preparation and determination.

EASTER BREAK! We have this Friday and Monday off, and I sincerely hope you have a wonderful restful break with family. 

When you come back we will jump back into sales tax and discuss personal budgets. We will have 14 days until STAAR when you come back so we have to keep working really hard.

Week of April 10-14, 2017

1st Week of the 6th Six Weeks!

Time flies! We are already on the last six weeks of the school year, and we have done so much already. We are 18 school days away from our STAAR math test, and those days are definitely going to fly by. 

Once I finish the curriculum we are going to spiral back to all our lessons in order to refresh your memory before the test. Those of you at level III already need to be consistent and remember that there is always room for improvement. Stay humble.

I am so proud of your hard work on our Benchmark #2, and I hope you try even harder on the actual STAAR test. 

Attendance is important so please show up to school everyday!

6th Week of the 5th Six Weeks

MATH BENCHMARK!!!

Make sure to go to bed early on Sunday night, and have a good breakfast in the morning.

We discussed how having a positive attitude is very important. When you get here on Monday morning I want to here you talking about how you're going to pass the test and go for a level III!

5th Week of the 5th Six Weeks!

Last week was a very busy week with open house and the pep rally, but we powered through and learned about mean, median, mode, and range. We also discussed dot plots and box plots. 

This week we will continue with box plots and also discuss circle graphs.

Please come to school especially on those two days. Attendance is very important!

It was a much needed restful week, and I hope you come back prepared to continue learning new lessons. This was also the perfect opportunity to catch up on missing assignments if you had any. Remember, progress reports are coming up, and I don't want anyone to fall behind.

This week we will be refreshing our memories with calculating the mean, median, mode, and range from a data set. This will help us as we continue on into comparing data from dot plots and box plots.

Week of March 6-10, 2017

3rd Week of the 5th Six Weeks!
I am very proud of the progress we've made since the beginning of the new year. We have managed to learn so much in such a short time. 

Continue to come in during lunch to finish assignments or for extra help. We are slowly getting closer to our state assessments, but first we will have our benchmarks.

The math benchmark will be administered on April 3 (MONDAY), which is about a month away. Attendance is imperative, if you must absolutely be out make sure that you come in during lunch to catch up ASAP.

Spring Break is coming up, so make sure all late/missing assignments are turned in before that.

Week of February 27- March 3, 2017

2nd Week of the 5th Six Weeks!

This week we will continue learning about the area of composite figures. Composite figures are figures made out of simpler shapes. Your job is to break them down into familiar shapes and find the area of each. Then, you add up all the areas to find the composite figures total area.

Use common formulas for squares, circles, triangles, trapezoids, parallelograms, and rectangles. 

We will be working on task cards, stations, and individual worksheets next week!

REMINDERS:
Those of you that were out for the fair make sure you catch up with missing assignments!!

The Last Week of the 4th Six Weeks!!!

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU COME TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY FOR THE SIX WEEKS TEST REVIEW!!!

If you know you are struggling with a lesson from this six weeks you need to ask questions ASAP, and ask me for a lunch pass if necessary. If you have been absent, please make it a point to come in during lunch so that I can try and catch you up with as much as possible.

If you are pending any assignments, please make sure you turn them in as soon as possible. For reference, the last homework assignment I have assigned was given out on February 8 (last Wednesday).

5th Week of the 4th Six Weeks!

I hope you enjoyed your extra day off this week, I know I did! It was a much needed extra break, but now it's time to get back to business. We will continue this week with inequalities and I will occasionally throw in some equations as reminders of what we did last week. 
Remember, your six weeks test will be next week, so please if you feel you need a little extra help come in during lunch for clarification or ask specific questions during class.
Also, I want to stress that attendance is very important, and if you have to miss school be sure to make up the work for the day. If you missed the introduction to a lesson, I will want to see you during lunch to catch you up to speed. (you don't have to stay the whole time only as long as it takes me to brief you on what we did the day you were out)

Week of January 30- February 3, 2017

4th Week of the 4th Six Weeks

Last week we had a successful mini assessment week, if you feel like you could have done better on the test revisit it and come during lunch for extra clarification. 
This week we will continue exploring two-step equations including modeling and writing verbal descriptions. I did not get to meet with my 6th period last Friday due to the play, but if you feel like you need extra help with solving two step equations see me during lunch.
If you are from RMS you will be able to stay an extra 25 minutes on Thursday, especially if I request that you stay for some extra help or to catch up on some work.
This six weeks is flying by and we have learned so much, keep up the great work!

Week of January 23-27, 2017

3rd Week of the 4th Six Weeks

This week we will finish up linear relationships on Monday and Tuesday, and your mini assessment will take place on Wednesday. The test will be 10 problems long, 5 questions will be about circumference and area and the other 5 will be about linear relationships.

It is your responsibility to ask questions or to see me during lunch if you feel like you're falling behind. Progress reports will be issued out this week, so please make sure all late assignments are turned in on time. You should already know what you are missing and all the assignments are posted on the board. 

Come prepared and with a positive attitude tomorrow, this semester is going to fly by!

REMINDERS:

WELCOME BACK!
1st Week of the 4th Six Weeks!

Hopefully you have had a wonderful and restful break, and you are ready to get back on the horse! The second semester will feel like it will fly by, so we have to stay on our toes and not slack off. We have our second benchmark in April, and I am expecting a lot of improvement from the first one.

Remember we can get a lot done with a positive attitude. Come to school prepared and ready to learn.

On Monday we will be going over your holiday work over the Hunger Games probability. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT COMPLETE!
